Hearing aids

Unitron hearing aids, fitted at home across the North East

Unitron is a quietly clever choice that not everyone has heard of. It shares its parent company, and much of its engineering, with Phonak, but tends to come in at a friendlier price, which makes it a strong option for people who want proven technology without paying for the very top tier. We fit the current Unitron range, and as an independent practice we only recommend it where it genuinely suits your hearing. If something else fits you better, we will say so. It all starts with a free hearing test at home, with the aftercare that follows included.

  • Independent, impartial advice with no brand to push
  • Tested, fitted and supported in your own home
  • A free hearing test first, with no commitment to buy

The difference

What Unitron does differently

Unitron is part of the same group as Phonak and runs on much of the same underlying technology, so the core sound performance is close to its better-known sibling, usually at a gentler price. For a lot of people, that is the whole appeal: very capable hearing aids without the premium-flagship cost.

Where Unitron really stands out is how it lets you choose. Its Flex:trial approach means you can wear the aids in your real life for a few weeks, across the situations that actually matter to you, before you decide which level of technology to buy. Rather than guessing up front, you and we review how you got on and settle on the level that genuinely helped, so you only pay for what you need. It is an unusually honest way to buy a hearing aid, and it suits people who want to be sure before they commit.

The technology

The technology, in plain terms

Unitron's newest aids use the same core processor found in Phonak's latest range, tuned around Unitron's own approach to picking out conversation.

  • Proven sound performance, from shared, well-regarded engineering
  • A focus feature for noise, that sharpens speech in front of you when a room gets loud
  • Try before you commit, with Flex:trial letting you test a technology level in real life first
  • Rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth, for calls, TV and music, on most models
  • Tinnitus relief, available across the range if you need it

  • Led by the rechargeable Moxi, across receiver-in-canal and behind-the-ear styles
  • Rechargeable, roughly 20 to 24 hours per charge, with about a 3-hour full charge

Unitron Vivante, the established, value option

The previous platform, still capable and widely fitted, often the better-value route into Unitron if you do not need the very newest technology.

Best for: People who want a proven, lower-cost Unitron platform with a choice of batteries.

  • The previous-generation platform from 2023, in several receiver-in-canal and behind-the-ear styles
  • A choice of rechargeable models or a size 312 disposable-battery option
  • Built on Sonova's earlier chip, a step behind the Smile platform
  • Bluetooth streaming from phones and media, covered by the Flex:trial option

Honest advice

When Unitron might not be the right brand

We will give it to you straight. Because Unitron sits as the value option in its group, if you want the very top-tier features, such as the dedicated speech-in-noise chip in Phonak's flagship Sphere, or that brand's full Roger microphone ecosystem at the highest level, its sibling Phonak is the one to look at. And if natural sound or built-in health features are your priority, Widex or Starkey may suit you better. Unitron is often exactly right when you want proven performance at a sensible price.

Unitron questions

Common questions about Unitron hearing aids

Are Unitron and Phonak the same?

Not the same, but closely related. They share a parent company and much of the same core technology, so the underlying sound performance is similar. Unitron generally comes in at a friendlier price, while Phonak's flagship adds top-tier extras like its dedicated speech-in-noise chip. We fit both, so we can match you to whichever makes sense.

What is Flex:trial?

It is a Unitron approach that lets you wear the aids in your real life for a few weeks, at a chosen technology level, before you commit to buying. You and we then review how you got on and settle on the level that genuinely helped, so you only pay for what you need. We will explain whether it suits your situation.

Are Unitron hearing aids good value?

Yes, that is much of their appeal. You get proven engineering shared with a better-known brand, usually at a more accessible price, which makes Unitron a sensible choice for people who do not need the very top tier.

How much do Unitron hearing aids cost?

Private aids are priced by the technology level you choose, so there is no single figure. We start with a free test and a no-obligation recommendation, then explain the options and prices clearly so the choice is yours.

Can you get Unitron hearing aids on the NHS?

The NHS fits from a limited list that does not usually include Unitron. Going private gives you the full range and a fitting built around you, and we will explain the difference honestly.

Is it Unitron or Unitrons?

It is Unitron. If you have seen it written differently, you are in the right place.
