Oticon hearing aids, fitted at home across the North East

Oticon is one of the world's largest hearing aid makers and one of the brands we fit most often. Because we are independent, we are not tied to Oticon or to anyone else, so if it is the right fit for your hearing and your life we will recommend it, and if another brand suits you better we will tell you that instead. Every fitting starts with a free hearing test at home, and the aftercare that follows is included for as long as you wear them.

  • Independent advice, not a single-brand sales pitch
  • Fitted and supported at home across the North East
  • Free hearing test first, with no obligation to buy

The difference

What Oticon does differently

Most hearing aids work by picking the loudest nearby voice and turning everything else down. Oticon takes a different view, built around what it calls BrainHearing. The idea is that your brain, not the hearing aid, is what makes sense of sound, so the aid's job is to give your brain a clear, full picture of what is around you rather than narrowing everything down to one speaker.

In practice that tends to suit people who want sound to feel natural and open, who like to stay aware of what is happening around them, and who find that older aids made the world feel flat or closed in. If following a single conversation in a very noisy room is your one biggest problem, that is worth flagging to us at your test, because it changes which model, and sometimes which brand, we would point you towards.

The technology

The technology, in plain terms

Oticon's recent aids run on its Sirius chip and a Deep Neural Network, a system trained on millions of real-world sounds so the aid can recognise speech, traffic, music and background noise and handle each appropriately. The newest models add what Oticon calls 4D sensor technology, which responds to your movement and what you are trying to listen to, and adjusts in the moment rather than waiting for you to change a setting.

  • Clearer conversations in busier places, without everything else dropping away
  • Rechargeable batteries, on most models, so no fiddling with tiny cells
  • Bluetooth streaming, for calls, TV and music straight to your ears
  • Auracast ready, on the latest models, for public audio broadcasts in venues, airports and theatres
  • Remote fine-tuning, on supported models, so some adjustments can be made without a visit

Oticon Intent, the flagship and the right choice for most people

Intent is Oticon's best-selling aid and its most complete. It is a discreet behind-the-ear style that sits with a thin wire into the ear, with the full BrainHearing and 4D sensor technology, rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth. For the majority of hearing losses, this is where we start.

Best for: Most people who want Oticon's best all-round performance in a discreet rechargeable aid.

  • Rechargeable receiver-in-canal style, up to around 20 hours including streaming
  • Built on the new Sirius chip with a second-generation Deep Neural Network
  • 4D sensor technology that adjusts to your movement and surroundings

Oticon Zeal, the newest model, for discretion without compromise

Zeal launched in 2026 and is one of the most discreet aids Oticon has ever made, sitting in the ear rather than behind it while keeping the same smart sound processing, rechargeability and Bluetooth. It suits people who have held off because they did not want anything visible.

Best for: People with mild to moderate loss who want a near-invisible aid that still streams and recharges.

  • A discreet custom in-the-ear style, among the most hidden aids Oticon makes
  • Rechargeable, up to around 20 hours, with a 15-minute top-up giving a few hours
  • Runs the same Sirius chip and Deep Neural Network as the flagship Intent
  • Streams calls and media, supports Bluetooth LE Audio and is Auracast ready

Oticon Own, custom-made for your ear

Own is moulded to the exact shape of your ear canal and comes in sizes down to nearly invisible. A good option if you want something hidden and made to measure. The very smallest versions trade off Bluetooth streaming for that tiny size, which we will explain so there are no surprises.

Best for: People who want a hand-built aid moulded to their own ear, from near-invisible to a larger fit.

  • A custom range from invisible-in-canal up to full-shell in-the-ear styles
  • Runs on disposable batteries, with size 10 or 312 cells depending on the style
  • The first custom Oticon aid with an on-board Deep Neural Network
  • Larger styles offer Bluetooth streaming; the smallest fits have no room to stream

Oticon Real, dependable everyday performance

Real runs on the earlier Polaris platform but is still a capable, modern aid, with an on-board Deep Neural Network for handling sudden sounds and busy places. A solid choice if you want strong Oticon performance without paying for the very latest platform.

Best for: People who want dependable everyday Oticon performance on the earlier, lower-cost platform.

  • Behind-the-ear and receiver-in-canal styles, in rechargeable and disposable-battery forms
  • Built on the Polaris platform with an on-board Deep Neural Network
  • More Sound Intelligence handles sudden sounds and noisy places
  • Bluetooth streaming for iPhone and Android, without the newer Auracast

Oticon Zircon, the value option

Zircon is Oticon's more affordable line on the same Polaris generation. It does not have the Deep Neural Network found in Real, but it still gives clear, comfortable sound with modern connectivity, at a lower price.

Best for: People who want clear, comfortable Oticon sound at the most affordable price.

  • Behind-the-ear and receiver-in-canal styles, with a telecoil miniRITE-T option
  • Rechargeable and disposable-battery forms, with around a full day per charge
  • Built on the Polaris platform, without the Deep Neural Network found in Real
  • Bluetooth streaming for iPhone and Android, without the newer Auracast

Honest advice

When Oticon might not be the right brand

We would rather be honest than make a sale. If your single biggest challenge is following speech in very loud, crowded places, and you want the highest independently tested performance in that one situation, a brand built specifically around speech-in-noise, such as Phonak, may serve you better, and we will say so at your test. Equally, if natural, open sound and all-day comfort matter most, Oticon is often exactly right. Seeing the brands side by side is the whole point of using an independent fitter.

How it works

How we fit Oticon hearing aids

Oticon is about giving your brain a natural, full picture of sound, so setting the aids up for the way you actually listen matters from the very first appointment.

  1. 1

A free hearing test at home

A full assessment in your own living room, at no cost, with your results explained clearly before there is any talk of which aid.

  2. 2

    An honest recommendation

Based on your hearing, your lifestyle and your budget, from any manufacturer. If Oticon suits you, we will say which model. If it does not, we will point you elsewhere.

  3. 3

    Fitting and programming

We fine-tune your Oticon aids to your exact hearing and set them up for natural, open sound, then show you how to wear, charge and connect them with confidence.

  4. 4

    Lifetime aftercare

Adjustments, cleaning, servicing and help with warranty and repairs, for as long as you wear them. We are a phone call away, not a one-off sale.

Oticon questions

Common questions about Oticon hearing aids

Are Oticon hearing aids any good?

Yes. Oticon is one of the largest and most respected manufacturers in the world, consistently rated among the top brands for natural sound and speech understanding. Whether it is the best choice for you specifically depends on your hearing and how you live, which is what your free test is for.

What is the newest Oticon hearing aid?

The newest model is the Oticon Zeal, a discreet in-the-ear aid released in 2026. The Oticon Intent remains the flagship and the most popular choice for most hearing losses.

How much do Oticon hearing aids cost?

Private hearing aids are priced by the technology level you choose, so there is no single figure. We start with a free hearing test and a no-obligation recommendation, then explain the options and prices clearly so you can decide what is right for you. There is never any pressure to buy.

Can you get Oticon hearing aids on the NHS?

The NHS fits hearing aids from a limited list of models, which changes over time and may not include the latest Oticon technology. Going private gives you the full Oticon range and a fitting, and aftercare, built around you. We are happy to talk you honestly through the difference at your test.

Are Oticon hearing aids rechargeable and Bluetooth?

Most of the Oticon aids we fit are rechargeable and connect by Bluetooth to your phone, TV and other devices for calls and streaming. The smallest custom styles are the main exception, and we will point that out before you choose.

Is it Oticon or Opticon?

It is Oticon. It is often typed as Opticon or Octicon, so if you have seen it spelled differently, you are in the right place.
