What to expect

Time to understand your tinnitus

Tinnitus can happen with or without hearing loss. Your £80 consultation brings your symptoms, ear health and hearing into the same discussion, with time to explain what matters to you.

Talk through your tinnitus

We discuss when it started, the sound you notice and any related symptoms. Your sleep, concentration and daily life help shape the questions we explore together.

Examine your ears

We check your ear canals and eardrums for visible problems, including wax or signs of infection. Findings may lead to advice about separate care or further investigation.

Assess your hearing

We test your hearing at different pitches and explain the results. This helps us consider whether hearing loss is part of the picture alongside your tinnitus concerns.

Make a personal plan

We discuss management options around your tinnitus and daily needs. Your plan may include practical strategies, hearing support or advice about further medical assessment.

Support around your everyday life

A plan based on your needs

Management aims to reduce the impact of tinnitus. We discuss suitable options using your findings and the situations you want help with, without promising that the sound will disappear.

Sound and surroundings

Explore sound-based approaches and practical environmental changes, with advice suited to the situations where tinnitus troubles you.

Sleep and daily routines

Discuss tinnitus-management techniques, sleep strategies and everyday coping, with realistic expectations for your personal plan.

Hearing and further support

Consider hearing aids where hearing loss is present, or GP and ENT advice where medical or specialist investigation may be needed.

What does a tinnitus consultation cost?

The adult home tinnitus consultation is £80 and usually takes 60–90 minutes. It includes a symptom discussion, ear examination, hearing assessment and personalised management advice. The £80 covers the full consultation, with no further support charges. There are no scheduled follow-up appointments afterwards. Request a consultation.

Is this the same as a free hearing test?

No. The £80 tinnitus consultation focuses on your tinnitus, its impact and management options, alongside a hearing assessment. Hear Better also offers a separate free adult home hearing test, with no obligation to buy hearing aids. Hearing aids and any separate wax-removal appointment are paid services.

Can hearing aids help with tinnitus?

Hearing aids may be appropriate when hearing loss is also present. They are not a guaranteed tinnitus cure. NICE recommends hearing aids when hearing loss affects communication and advises against amplification for tinnitus without hearing loss. The recommendation depends on your assessment.

Do I need to see my GP as well?

See your GP for regular, worsening or bothersome tinnitus, including effects on sleep or concentration. Persistent tinnitus on one side also needs assessment. Some symptoms need urgent or emergency help; check when to get medical advice before arranging a routine visit.

What management options can we discuss?

Depending on your findings, we can discuss sound-based strategies, tinnitus-management techniques, environmental and sleep advice, and hearing aids where hearing loss is present. Medical or specialist assessment may be needed. The consultation does not include scheduled follow-up appointments.
